There’s no written owner’s manual when it comes to being a parent.

There are books and resources.

There is advice from other's experiences.

There are other moms to bounce ideas off of.

No matter how many resources we have available to us, we continually come across scenarios in parenting that make us think... 'WHAT THE %$*& DO I DO!?!?'

When confronted with a situation you are unsure of, you try plan A, then plan B, and so on until you find out what works best for you and your baby. Trial and error seem to be the general rule of thumb, and that’s ok. What works for one person doesn’t always work for all.

Below is our list of Plan A Solutions for some common scenarios early parenthood brings.

What to do if your baby is fussy?

First, factor out the obvious reasons. Rule out a diaper change, and if he or she is hungry.

Perhaps all your little one needs is a change of scenery. Just like adults, no one wants to sit in the same position for too long. An adult would get up, walk around, maybe do a stretch. Your baby is obviously unable to do most of those things and their only way to vocalize their discomfort is to cry and fuss.

Pick up your baby and take a seat in that...Read more

The Easter Bunny, a sweet creature.

A generous creature who brings feelings of joy to your family.

A creature who is not to be confused with his twin brother, THE DREADED YEASTER BUNNY!

The Yeaster Bunny. A demonic beast. A twisted soul who brings you gifts of inflammation, intense itchiness, and a thick, white discharge.

Yeast infections are relatively common. According to the Mayo Clinic, 3 out of 4 women will experience a yeast infection at one point in their lives.

The cause of a yeast infection? The fungus Candida a.k.a the root of all evil. Antibiotics can also be a large contributor to yeast. Consider taking a probiotic when you are perscribed an antibiotic. As always check with your medical provider before taking anything you are unsure of.

Candida is associated with intense itching, swelling, and irritation.

Vaginal Yeast Infections

In the case of a vaginal yeast infection, the...Read more

Northeast Doulas is excited to announce that the event registration for our annual No Child Wet Behind 5K is now open!

In case you are unfamiliar with this fundraiser, No Child Wet Behind began as a small local event started by Northeast Doulas three years ago. When we realized how many families just in our surrounding area alone struggled with providing diapers for their small children, we knew we had to do something to change this.

No Child Wet Behind brings support to families in diaper need that otherwise goes unfunded by any government backed programs.

We set a goal to collect diapers to help our local diaper bank, now we have evolved into a nationwide foundation that assists hundreds of families and facilities all over the country.

It is so important to spread the word to further our reach so we need your support too! Here is how you can get involved.......Read more

Let's talk about sex.

You just had a baby. Let's be real. Your body does not snap right back to normal.

Regardless of how 'perfect', or not so perfect, your birth experience was, it is undeniable that your body has had an extraordinary and perhaps traumatic experience.

Now that you are no longer "with child," you may be feeling eager to hop into bed with your partner and share a hot and sexy experience.

But suddenly it sinks in... Your body loudly telling you, "NO, NO, NO!"

The thought of being penetrated after a vaginal birth is terrifying.

The thought of sharing your body with anyone other than your baby seems weird.

On top of (No pun intended) the symptoms associated with recovering from childbirth, you might even be feeling self conscious about your new body.

Physical Pain + Self Scrutiny = Bad Sex, Bad feelings and sometimes... RESENTMENT!

So lets talk about how to get your head and your body back in the game

It starts with 2 simple words...

Relaxation and Lubrication

Let's start with relaxation.

Sleep /slēp/ noun
A condition of body and mind such as that which typically recurs for several hours every night, in which the nervous system is relatively inactive, the eyes closed, the postural muscles relaxed, and consciousness practically suspended.

A good night sleep can do more than boost your mood and get rid of your under eye circles.

Getting the recommended 8-10 hours of sleep can provide a variety of other benefits that play a role in your physical and mental health. Although most people are aware of the benefits of a good night sleep, sleep deprivation is something that most of us have struggled with at one point or another.

Sleep Deprivation is something that many postpartum women struggle with.

Sleep deprivation comes with a lot of extra baggage (not just the ones under your eyes). Ongoing sleep deficiency can cause fatigue, daytime sleepiness, clumsiness and weight loss or weight gain and is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke.

Whether you had a vaginal or cesarean birth your recovery is equally important.

Your recovery is greatly impacted by two things. Your nutritional care and rest.
